Formation
During the Pandemic in 2020, Cara pivoted from being a full-time performer to becoming a full-time teacher. She noticed that the techniques she developed while rebuilding her voice and maintaining it at a rigorous professional level (with international tours, multi-hour performances, and more) proved highly effective for training college voice students. In 2024, after teaching for four years at Lindenwood University, she founded Libra Voice Studio to expand her public offerings as a voice teacher, performance coach, and creative mentor. Now back in NYC, Cara continues her work as a musical artist, while also teaching at Libra Voice Studio. To read more about Cara's artistry, scroll down to read her bio.
Backstory
At the age of 22, while finishing her final year as a vocal performance major at Berklee College of Music, Cara lost her voice due to severe thryroid complications. She attempted to retrain her voice in the three years that followed - with no knowledge of whether it may return. These difficult times afforded Cara the opportunity to re-examine her relationship with her voice and to shift her approach towards vocal training. She learned that compassion - not force - was a defining factor in helping her get her voice back. The tools she developed (based on her previous training in the Bel Canto vocal technique with esteemed voice teacher Jan Shapiro at Berklee) not only helped her re-build her voice from scratch - but also expanded her vocal range, stamina, and confidence in her vocal delivery. When she moved to Brooklyn in 2012, this "new and improved" voice led her to achieve professional success in NYC and abroad working as a full-time jazz/contemporary vocalist and bandleader from 2012-2020.
